Not to be confused with the male cat variety…..
When we initially started on this farm adventure, we decided our farm would be called 6:7-9 Farms, a nod to Galatians 6:7-9. These verses stood out to me as we worked and dreamed on what our farm would look like and mean to us.
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:7-9
After explaining the meaning countless times and having no one call it the same thing, we decided we needed something easier to remember and share. And something that we could use as an umbrella name for ventures down the road. We don’t have Magnolia trees or any whispering Willows so those were out. And I don’t love our Pines much at all, especially not enough to incorporate them into our farm name. No creeks, rivers, or lakes. So we started to get more creative.
Since we wanted the name to incorporate each member of our family, we started looking at our names. All of our names have some sort of connection and family tie, so we decided to use those in a way.
Thomas. Kate. Kate. Thomas. Thompson.
And so there was born ThomKat. A farm built and loved by our family. A connection to those who have gone before us. A story that is ours to write and tell. A bond to strengthen and cherish for a lifetime.
